Declan 3.4 - 3.6 Years

Dear Declan: 3 1/2 Years

  • You weigh 30.6 pounds
  • You sleep from 7:30pm - 6:45am during the week and a nap from 12:30-2:30; on the weekends we keep you up until 8:30/9pm and you usually wake up right at 10-11 hours but will just play in your bed and let us sleep in for a little bit longer. (thanks for that!)
  • You are wearing size 9 shoe and size 3T shirts and 3T jeans and 2T shorts.
  • Your Mimi and Poppi got you a big swing set with a slide for Easter and you LOVE it!
  • You are still picky and only eat a small amount of food
  • 3 more months have past and you finish soccer and you are almost done with PreK3!
  • You are learning to control yourself and not have tantrums as much.
  • You've a had another ear infection and a bad cough, thanks to allergies
I don't know how but you've changed before our eyes and you have grown into a little man. You know what you like and what you don't like. You will see something and want to go do it but then change your mind because you get scared. Then you think about it and change your mind again and want to do it! You are so good with pretending and talking to your toys like they are real. You've finally started getting more 'smiles' at school and when I get home, you say 'Mommy, I listen to teacher!'. I do remind you every day that you have to listen, learn, watch, and obey the teachers and you say 'okay mommy'. You are so shy around people you don't know but quickly warm up to them and act like you've known them forever.

God Gave Me A Son

I came across a blog this today. It's everything I love about being a boy mom and more.

God gave me a son.

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to shop for pink dresses, and oversized bows. To have tea parties or baby dolls scattered across the house. To feel the responsibility of raising a strong woman, in a world that sometimes feels built for men.

But, God gave me a son.

So I fold tiny superhero underwear and give daily reminders about putting the toilet seats down. There are trucks and tractors packed into every crevice of our home. Giggles when the slightest noise sounds like a toot, and moments where spontaneous wrestling matches break out, pretty much anywhere.

Yes, God gave me a son.

A son to teach empathy, kindness, and love to. A son to remind that the dishes, and the laundry, and the cooking and the cleaning are not just for a woman to do, but for a man as well. A son to snuggle, so they know embrace is more than just something physical, and one sided—there is an emotional power that comes with touch. A son that I can remind to be vulnerable because it’s one of the bravest things you can be. A son to be husband and father—ones who don’t walk away or quit when it gets hard. A son to be a man, to be respectful, responsible, and encouraging, no matter your race, gender, or beliefs.

That’s why God gave me a son.

Not because he needed me, but because I needed him. To remind me that a son need a mother’s strength, a woman’s love—because I will always be his first example of how treat a lady. I believe few things in life are more powerful than that.

God gave me a son, and if he ever gave me another, now I know why.

Dear Declan: 3.1 - 3.3
  • You weigh 29.8 pounds
  • You sleep from 7:00/7:30pm - 6:30am during the week and a nap from 12:30-2:30; on the weekends we keep you up until 8 or 9 and you usually wake up right at 10-11 hours but will just play in your bed and let us sleep in for a little bit longer. (thanks for that!)
  • You are still wearing size 8 shoe but starting to wear size 9 and size 2T shirts and pants.
  • We've celebrated Christmas and New Years!
  • You've had 2 more ear infections and the flu these past few months.
  • You still love going to school - you just don't like getting up and getting ready!
  • We started potty training on December 28th and you only had a few accidents the first day and not very many the next few days after.
  • You are talking so much these past few months!!
  • You love singing Jingle Bells and The Itsy Bitsy Spider songs.
  • You love counting and saying the ABC. You love to play pretend with your toys.
  • You hate having your teeth brushed and washing your hands but I'm all over it making sure your teeth and hands are clean.
  • You recently have asked to not sleep in your sleep sack because you said you get hot it in.
  • You started soccer this past month, you love kicking the ball in the net but you don't like listening to the rules or playing with the other kids!
These last 3 months went by so fast! We were on vacation the week of Christmas and went to Benton and Hot Springs. You had so much fun with Gigi and Pepaw! You got to see your aunts, uncles and cousins.  We stopped by Hot Springs for a few hours to see Papa and Nana. You loved opening gifts and help everyone else open their gifts! We started potty training while we were on break. Now today, you are almost all the way potty trained! You LOVE getting prizes for pooping in the potty too.

Declan - You have the kindest heart! I fell asleep on the couch one Saturday afternoon and you put the blanket on me and kissed me on the forehead! Makes me want to melt! You still love your Paw Patrol, Trolls, and you take Monkey everywhere. You're getting over some of your fears but still don't like mascots but you love looking for them while we are at the games and events!
